History of the Merrell store — how it happened
The first trekking boots were so successful that in 1981 Randy, joining forces with former ski resort managers John Schweitzer and Clark Matis, decided to create the Merrell brand and produce footwear.
John Schweitzer handled supplies of Italian materials and business contacts. Clark Matis managed production (each pair was sewn by hand and the process took about half a year) and handled marketing. And Randy Merrell was responsible for design and the creation of new models.
In 1982, to expand production, the partners were forced to take out a bank loan. And soon the first official Merrell store appeared. Since 1983, the brand’s popularity began to grow rapidly. Lines of women’s footwear and the first boots with Gore-Tex technology were added to the range.
Merrell after Randy
Merrell was not satisfied with the role of a manager and in 1986, after creating several more legendary boots, he sold his share and moved to Utah. There he returned to his favorite pursuit — creating custom models.
The brand was acquired by Finns from Karhu, who made minor changes to production that noticeably lowered prices. Merrell’s worldwide recognition only grew as a result — the company’s popularity spread beyond the US.
In 2005 the brand began making bags and Merrell backpacks, and two years later a clothing line appeared.
Today Merrell offers footwear and clothing, as well as ergonomic and multifunctional accessories for men, women and children. With Merrell you can travel, hike (including in the mountains), and enjoy winter and water tourism. In 2009 high-quality hiking socks were added to the clothing line.
